Wireless broadband fails to take off

It has been declared that wireless broadband in the form of WiMax is deteriorating to take off on the height foreseen before its commencement because consumers are finding it difficult to locate the service's exclusive selling point.

According to a recent study conducted by ZDNet.co.uk, the broadband product is not continuing at the rapid speed which was previously expected. It gathered around 270,000 customers worldwide during 2006 but lagged later on.

It has been found out that the teething troubles experienced by WiMax might have been taken place because consumers are finding it hard to see the service's benefits over those offered by 3G or DSL. On the other hand, the website also mentioned that the three technologies are relatively different and should not be generalised.

The website has also claimed that WiMax needs to show its capabilities through integrated messaging, voice over internet protocol and no international roaming charges, in the midst of other things. Broadcast watchdog Ofcom recently mentioned that it would consider allowing firm UK Broadband to provide WiMax services in the UK.
