July 27, 2007Wi-fi networks will grow sevenfold in next five yearsAccording to the report from Datamonitor the combined investments on Wi-fi networks in the UK and the USA will shoot up from £439m to nearly £3 bn during the next five years. This means the Wi-fi in cities in these countries will be implemented with an annual growth of 48 percent. In UK, the first ever Wi-fi network was launched in Norfolk and Milton Keynes. The Wi-fi system which was also known as Norfolk Open Link provided Wifi coverage, mobile network in this area. Milton Keynes was another region in UK to provide Wi-fi internet access to its citizens who live in heart of the city in the same year. The network in Milton Keynes was launched by Briteyellow, a Wi-fi company and Invest Milton Keynes and other commercial sponsors. Recently, free Wi-fi network was established in the region between Milbank and Greenwich along the Thames River. Free wifi access for 15 minutes will be available with a condition that one should watch an advert of the sponsors. Free-hotspot.com and MeshHopper provide this free wifi access.
