Why Should Virgin Media Denounce Speedtests?
Virgin Media has been the one broadband ISP in the UK to outsail time, at each milestones. It was the one that simply sigle handedly carried all of its existing 2Mbps subscribers to a blistering 10Mbps at no extra cost. It was the one who introduced a 50Mbps superfast broadband service through optic fiber lines, way before BT got the nod from Ofcom to go ahead with its optic fibre venture. It has been one broadband service provider that always kept an eye on the broadband speeds above anything else.
Even in these circumstances, one would find it an oddity that it has been Virgin Media, which was all the more frustrated by the speed test services of the internet. It had only last year announced their view that the online connection speedtests were hardly precise. It had also said that, as promises were put forth about changes to the online tests, it would carry on monitoring the system. Obviously, the icon of fast broadband in the UK has lost its temper in the wake of the recent developments. This is quiet evident from its heavily-worded rebuke of late.
Virgin Media had recently released a fresh set of results grounded on the rating of web-based speed tests. This follows the accusations made a few months back on false speed results and flawed tests. The latest study however, shows an improvement in speedtest performance. In fact, Virgin Media had in the initial stages of its 50Mbps broadband service launch, also launched a campaign to monitor the speed testers of broadband comparison sites, especially for its suspisions on the capability of sites to allow users check their faster service. Meanwhile, Ofcom has also decided to wade into the troubled waters by revealing their plans to release a speed list for the broadband UK ISPs.
