Top 5 Tips to choose Broadband Provider

So you want fast broadband connection. Choosing a broadband provider can be tricky. ISP offers keep changing all the time and there are so many internet suppliers and deals to choose from. Here are the top 5 things to consider when you choose your provider for your fast internet connection. 1. Know your usage. If you are downloading a lot of files, music, videos etc., you may need unlimited download limits. So go for such a deal. Even if you are unsure, it is worth going for an unlimited broadband anyway, to avoid surprises. If you are sure you will only be checking your email and do a bit of browsing, then cheaper alternatives are available, which usually have download limits. But there is hardly any price difference between the unlimited broadband deals and others anyway nowadays. So it is worthwhile comparing the costs. 2. The “fast broadband” trap. Do not end up paying high costs because “Up to 8mb” broadband is advertised. This does not mean you will get 8mb. The speed you get depends on your phone line, your distance from the exchange etc. So check what you CAN get and decide accordingly. 3. Check special offers There is so much competition among internet service providers, so the offers keep changing. We update our site as soon as offers change, so check our broadband comparison chart for the up to date deals. Special offers can include free months, modems, routers, Antivirus program etc., 4. Beware of longer term contracts A contract period of 1 year is usual with most broadband offers. There are also providers like Eclipse Broadband Internet who offer connection without a long term contract. Occasionally, to cover the freebies they offer, broadband ISPs try to tie you in with more than a year contract. So make sure you know what you are getting into before you choose. We had a bad experience with Plusnet, when they offered a free modem (which we never used anyway). Our understanding was that it was a one year contract, but they ended up charging us £75 or so even after one year to get out of the contract. 5. Do you have to pay for customer service? Some ISPs have premium rate phone numbers to call if you have a problem. From our experience and our user reviews, BT Broadband and AOL Internet offer great customer service and some new suppliers are catching up. Before you pick, read what other people have experienced by browsing through the broadband reviews in the supplier pages of our site.
