Where is UK broadband heading towards?

Despite its slow growth during the last quarter, UK broadband industry is maintaining the momentum as we can see from the financial results published by the top broadband suppliers in UK. The recent Point Topic research compared the broadband uptake and growth in many broadband developed nations like the USA, Sweden, Japan, France and South Korea and their statistics placed the UK in seventh position in terms of broadband customers although the top ranked USA was behind UK in terms of percentage of growth during the last quarter. In Germany, the new broadband connections grew by 8.83 % while it was just 3.61 % in the UK. It is also surprising to find many leading nations worldwide had a growth rate within 3 percent during the last quarter. This makes one think whether the growth in broadband is destined to be a bit slower in coming years.

After Q3 results have been announced by some of the major ISPs in the UK, we give a snapshot of their achievements during the last quarter:

BT Total added 178,000 new customers during the second quarter.

Virgin Media
Total broadband customers: 3,590,000
