Virgin Media’s Ultrafast network project in more premises of Leeds & Scotland

One of the leading ISP Virgin Media UK has recently informed that they have connected with their ultrafast broadband with 350Mbps speeds & cable TV network to reach 35000 premises in Leeds (located in West Yorkshire). Their ultrafast network offers with nine times faster speeds than that of current Leeds average speed.

A welcome boost has been announced by Virgin Media with their plans of connecting 1000s of premises across Leeds and its surrouding villages in this year under their Project Lightning which is an ultrafast broadband expansion programme. At present their services are already available to 5000 premises in Rothwell near Leeds as per their statement. Next benefiticiary locations on their list are Micklefield, Cleckheaton, Osmondthorpe and some more areas of Rothwell & Scotland in this year.

The first area benefitted under this project was Middleton with a coverage of 11000 premises and at present the provider has been working in Rothwell to reach 11500 premises. Today they confirmed about their completion of 5000 Rothwell’s premises. To say totally, more than 1 lakh premises are now ready with their gigabit broadband network with the speed of 350 Mbps in Yorkshire.

As per their plan, £40m investment was planned for Leeds with the expansion target of an overall coverage of 80000 premises in 2015 and assured of delivering ultrafast broadband access to 80% of premises upon its completion. The coverage is part of their £3bn wider network program called “Project Lightning”.

Virgin Media also confirmed that they have connected more than 1.2 m premises from 2015 out of their target of 4 million premises under their Project Lightning. And they plan to extend their network for additional premises with the total reach of upto 17 million premises.

Regional Director of Virgin Media – Hugh Woolford said that the biggest beneficiary of the Project Lightning is Yorkshire region and they are planning to extend more premises this year. They hope that working along with the local authority will help to enable the digital ambitions of Leeds and make the community to do anything with ultrafast internet more quicky.

MP for Elmet and Rothwell – Alec Shelbrooke said that he is welcoming Virgin Media’s announcement and motivated with Virgin’s promise of connecting more of Rothwell premises in 2018. The network will help the residents and businesses in and around the area to enjoy and get access to the ultrafast best broadband services.
