Virgin Media unveils Virgin Free TV for its customers

Virgin Media, the largest provider of broadband services via its cable network has planned to roll out a new product, named Virgin Free TV, absolutely free for its customers who use its broadband and TV services but are not connected by its cable network.

Virgin Media has a vast customer base of more than 3.3 millions in the UK and the majority of them (3.1 million) receive its services (broadband, TV and telephony) via its cable network. It is one of the largest broadband providers in the

UK along with BT, AOL and Tiscali. What about the places where its cable network cannot reach? To expand its reach beyond its cable network, Virgin Media uses the DTH satellite services of Sky. Virgin Media, with the launching of Virgin Free TV, will cut a niche for itself as a broadcaster in these areas in a cost-effective manner.

Virgin Free TV is simply a set-top box with an electronic programming guide (EPG) just like a typical freeview receiver and the TV services that are broadcasted on it will be limited, says the report.
