Virgin Media slapped by ASA for Ad with Misleading Comparison

Virgin Media vs SkyThe Advertising Standards Authority for the United Kingdom had last day given the leading cable broadband provider operating in the country a rebuke following the ISP’s highlighting a misleading cost savings comparison against Sky in some of the direct mailing advertisements for its phone and TV services.

The broadband provider at the receiving end; Virgin Media, to add to its woes (it is better said as insult to injury) had further made many blunders in the broadband comparison such as failing to mention the price of its own broadband internet service against a similar product of Sky.

The challenge made by Sky was on the point that the price comparison table highlighted by Virgin Media failed in including the price of the broadband package offered by it, while comparing it with a package of Sky, which included broadband service as well.

Eventually, the advertising watchdog of the United Kingdom; ASA asked Virgin Media to make sure that the basis of comparisons were made clear by them in the future. It further warned the provider of the fastest broadband package in the country not to come up with
advertisements in the current form.

Sky is one of the prominent broadband TV phone bundle providers operating in the United Kingdom, which had been in loggerheads with Virgin Media and BT in the recent times regarding disputes on the TV services.
