Virgin Media broadband speeds best in January
The leading cable broadband and fibre optic broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom, Virgin Media has added one more feather to its crown of the fastest broadband provider in the UK by topping the statistics for the month of January in terms of delivered broadband speeds.
As a matter of fact, the provider of the fastest broadband package in the United Kingdom has clocked an average downstream speed of 7.5Mbps in January to top the list. The news was reported by the popular broadband comparison website Broadband Choices.
The 7.5Mbps average download speed clocked by Virgin Media incidentally happens to be 2.5Mbps faster than its nearest rival copper line ADSL ISP, O2 Broadband that came second in the list with an average download speed of 5.1Mbps (this includes the performance of BE Broadband as well).
Number three in the list was the popular broadband homephone bundle provider TalkTalk that delivered an average downstream speed of 3.6Mbps. Although, TalkTalk has increased its speed by .2Mbps, the overall speeds in the country dropped a bit since 2009 December to an average of 2.2Mbps from the previous 4.4Mbps.
O2 has, however, taken the honours for the best upload speeds, which is quite becoming significant for many consumers across the country. This category chart was topped by O2 with its average 733Kbps upstream speed. Virgin broadband came next with 602Kbps and TalkTalk, third with 498Kbps.
