December 29, 2007Using mobile as modem leading to mammoth billA report in the past revealed that 40 percent of internet users are not aware of the cap on their usage and think that their plans allow them to make ‘unlimited’ downloads. If you are a light user or an average user, it is a good idea to check the monthly usage allowance you get with your package, otherwise your additional usage can make you to pay a sum that you can never conceive. This is what happened with Ian Simpson, a Vodafone mobile user who received a huge monthly bill (£27,000) as he went on downloading and crossed all boundaries that any user would never dare. An employee in a factory in Darlington, is now pleading for 'sensible approach' from Vodafone. For his package which costs £41.50 per month and allows him to download upto 120MB, the worst thing he did to receive this mammoth bill was that he used his mobile as a modem to download files from internet. This is what accounted for the highly expensive charges he incurred for using to access internet - £18 per minute. Earlier, a Canadian used mobile to download huge files from internet and was charged $85,000 for that month. However, the service provider Bell Canada considered its customer’s plea and reduced it to $3,243. According to theregister, the mobile service provider will ‘try to come to some sympathetic arrangement" with Simpson. Vodafone was also reported to have tried to stop Simpson during the process of huge downloads that might include videos or music albums. However, Vodafone admitted that "the intensity of Ian's downloading was such that by the time our systems flagged anything up he had already racked up a massive bill", according to report from the Mirror. | ||
