Universal Broadband Could Cost Rural Communities Dearly

It is understood that the government’s plans to provide every household in the United Kingdom with a broadband connection of at least up to 2Mbps access speeds, could possibly leave the people who lived in the rural areas in the danger of being slapped with higher internet charges. This information according to Devon, a regional news portal, was revealed by a government spokesperson.

The news portal also revealed that the government spokesperson also admitted that one result of the rollout could be the rural communities having to pay for the additional charges.

Meanwhile, CLBA (the Country Land and Business Association) fears that such a move could mean that unfairly higher charges would be slapped on the people who lived in the countrysides than their counterparts in the urban areas, for consuming faster broadband.

However, it is also widely expected that any disparity between billing owing to the location of the broadband customer could possibly limited by an increased competition among the internet service providers of the country. This fact is also apparent in the statement of the government spokesperson, which said that the government would be looking forward to the broadband providers to offer a choice range that would keep the prices down.
