Understanding VoIP over a VPN Network

The UK Broadband industry is certainly always at par with the world standards as far as Internet technologies are concerned. There has been a lot said about VoIP's, VPN's, and SSL. Right now, the SSL VoIP VPN tunneling technology is the current trend. But prior to its introduction, only IPSec is used to make a secure connection, which in turn, is required in order to implement a VPN connection and a place secure, high-quality VoIP call.

SSL VoIP VPN tunneling is UK Broadband's newest feat in the Internet industry. SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer, and it effectively solves the security issues that VoIP and VPN connections are encountering. SSL VoIP VPN tunneling conveniently eliminates all the problems associated to port blocking, which is actually a common issue encountered with using the traditional Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol and Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol. And this problem is especially evident when customers start to use firewalls, NAT routers, and web proxies in their systems, as they cause some sort of a barrier between the ISP's main server and all its clients. A good example of this issue as seen in common ADSL / Cable routers as well as the Linksys VoIP VPN router, a device particularly used to share VoIP VPN connections.

VoIP is Voice over Internet Protocol. VoIP is a not so new technology, which enables a person to place regular phone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of the regular fiber-optic or copper cable lines that telephone service providers installs. A number of VoIP providers in the UK only give a service that allows their subscribers to call another person under the same service. But primarily because of the advancement of VoIP in the UK and the rest of the world, several VoIP service providers can now give a service that enables a person to call anybody else. More so, the equipments have been quite easy to use and are very much similar to a regular land-based phone. In fact, today's trend is to provide a wireless VoIP service that works similarly to a mobile phone.

On the other hand, VPN means Virtual Private Network. It is VPN that provides corporate networks a private and secure connection to their clients over the Internet. And primarily because of VPN, you can work from your own homes or anywhere else while gaining access to your company network. VPN is the main reason why corporate intranets are expanding and managing distant offices and offshore branches are made possible.
