UK will be Distanced from LTE until 2012?
The renowned technology and mobile company Sony Ericsson opined that the United Kingdom might not see the Fourth Generation mobile broadband technology until 2012 at the earliest. The mobile phone giant sounded the warning when talking to PCPro on the LTE rollout. Many countries across the world are already working on the deployment of the LTE technology, which arguably called in other words, the 4G technology.
Ericsson puts worth the ongoing dispute over the 900MHz radio spectrum as the reason for the delay in the LTE rollout that is expected to hit the UK. The 900MHz spectrum is currently owned by O2 and Vodafone, and is understood that at least an year will be required for the government to effectuate a redistribution. This fact has been cited by Ericsson as the reason for its difficulty in availing the technology for another three years.
The deployment of the technology over the existing infrastructure, according to the mobile phone and technology firm, would only help in delivering one fourth of the 150 Mbps maximum theoretical speed credited to the technology. However, the technology can still provide a speed of up to ten times the 3.6 Mbps speed provided by existing mobile broadband technology.
The spread of the news has invited widespread criticism from different sectors of the country. Many people are of the viewpoint that it was a shame that the country was falling behind in the rollout of the 4G technology, as China and USA were rolling out services relevant to this technology by the end of this year.
