UK Online Gaming Industry threatened by Slow Broadband

A Codemasters GameThe video gaming industry of the United Kingdom has been reported struggling to keep pace with international competition. This has been reported by the representatives of big time gaming firms such as Codemasters and Eidos.

The representatives of popular gaming firms were speaking for the Westminster eForum at a gathering in Whitehall. Of the lot, Eidos’s Ian Livingstone, Codemasters’ Chris Deering and the brain behind Elite, the cult game, David Braben were the most important ones. The gathering discussed the requirements of the games industry and wanted it to be included by the government in its pre-budget report.

The widespread notion of the gathering was that speeds of broadband internetservices had a significant role in the speculated downfall of the games industry of the United Kingdom, particularly for the reason that many popular games that were money spinning, currently depended on internet features.

According to the vice president of Electronic Arts for Northern Europe, Keith Ramsdale, getting broadband speeds of 2Mbps by 2012 was hardly ambitious enough. He added that the broadband internet pipe was expected to be more faster and thicker.

A good number of speakers at the Westminster eForum claimed that it was increasingly significant for the economy of the country than the film industry. However, most of them maintained that the industry unfortunately was a declining one.
