Tiscali UK Assets Acquired by Carphone Warehouse
Finally, Tiscali is relieved from the enormous pressure situation. It has successfully sold its assets in the UK for a substantial amount of GBP236 million to Carphone Warehouse, which is less than half of the amount, bade by the same ISP, an year back. Nonetheless it has been a cakewalk for Carphone Warehouse to the status of the second large broadband company in the UK. All thanks to BSkyB for pulling back from an almost struck out deal of GBP450 million.

Carphone Warehouse revealed in a post purchase briefing that an addition of 1.45 million customers to the customer base of the company’s broadband division – TalkTalk Broadband, was the major gain for them. It now calculates its total broadband customer base to reach 4.25 million. The deal that is believed to be funded by the existing debt facilities of Carphone Warehouse is expected to conclude by June.
According to the chief executive of Carphone Warehouse, Charles Dunstone, the process had been an ordeal for the numerous Tiscali shareholders, for the banking world collapse at first compounded by the Pound’s decline in front of the Euro. He rates the deal as the lengthiest one he had ever worked on.
Meanwhile, according to many broadband analysts, the price paid by Carphone to acquire the UK assets of Tiscali was much lower than the long-term expense of organically acquiring that sort of customer base. It is also worth mentioning here that Tiscali’s customer base in the UK had also 0.3 million voice and dial-up customers, apart from 0.1 million wholesale customers.Visit broadband comparison site to find latest broadband deals and also read expert broadband services.
