Tiscali storms into Epitro’s top five list

Internet Performance Indicator (IPI) Report from Epitiro for the second Q2 of this year includes Tiscali, which offers bundled services that include broadband, telephone and television services for the first time. As in the report of previous quarter, BT still ranks first among the top five ADSL broadband providers in the UK. BT is followed by Demon, Tiscali, Pipex and plusnet.

AOL and TalkTalk which figured in the top five list of previous quarter failed to find a place in the present top five list.

Epitiro’s collected detailed statistics including connection speed, reliability, performance of the ten largest competing consumer ADSL broadband providers. For this, all these top providers were tested more than 80 thousand times and each provider was ranked based on the connection speed, reliability, performance and customer satisfaction.

The criteria also include how long it takes to connect to the Internet, downloads and uploads and the performance of both ping and DNS lookups.

Gavin Johns, Managing Director of Epitro has commented:
“In terms of technical performance, BT, Demon and Pipex are consistently maintaining their presence in the top five,”

Regarding the inclusion of Tiscali for the first time in the top five list, he said:
“Tiscali achieved the highest connection speed in the report with BT offering the fastest FTP and HTTP download speed, which normally reflects the speed of general web browsing.”

Mr Johns further said, “BT and Pipex had the joint lowest packet loss rate which is good news for VoIP users.
“Demon had the lowest percentage of connection failures in the second quarter of 2007, suggesting that their consumer ADSL customers had the highest degree of uptime of the sample group.”
“BT and Orange provided the lowest ping time average, which measures response rates to information requests. A fast ping time is generally desirable for online gamers.”

It should be noted that Epitro only evaluates ADSL and ADSL Max broadband connections. However, Epitiro plans to include cable and ADSL2+ when making IPI Reports from Q3 2007.
