Tiscali in talks with BSkyB to get sky channels

According to the report from a newspaper, Tiscali, a major UK internet providers is about to sign an agreement with the leading pay-TV broadcaster and broadband provider BSkyB over distributing some of the Sky channels to its broadband members. It seems that Tiscal’s deal is going to spoil all the attempts of Virgin Media to get back Sky channels for its cable network.

It should be recalled that Tiscali acquired 100 % stake in Homechoice, a division of Video Networks International. As per the agreement, the TV service of Video Networks International was renamed as Tiscali TV service which started its services on 1st March 2007. With the announcement that came recently over the expansion of its TV network under its LLU line, this agreement appears just a beginning. This agreement will enable the customers of Tiscali to view sky channels like SkyOne and skyNews24. With its cheap bundled services, Tiscali will substantially maintain its postion as a UK cheap broadband provider in the coming days.

The growth story of Sky broadband supplier has already been confirmed by its Q3 results released recently. With robust results in all of its divisions, Sky has announced that the number of HD subscribers witnessed nearly 25 % growth and rose from 176,000 to 244,000. Sky Talk customer base also saw a bristling growth rate of 83 % and touched 408,000 by the end of third quarter. Including Easynet’s customer base, the total number of sky broadband customers increased by more than 50 percent during the third quarter.
