Phorm: The Spyware Firm Strikes Back
The controversial broadband internet spyware company, Phorm has waged a dubious fightback after its potential contracts with broadband providers TalkTalk and BT had ended in a dramatic plunge in losses.
Phorm had experienced pre-tax losses in the business prior to their investments in the development and marketing of Webwise Discover-like products. Nevertheless, the pre-tax losses of the company for the first half of the year has fallen from $24.7 million to $15 million, since then.
Phorm had shot into spotlight for its developing software that holds the information regarding the websites viewed by the consumers of the internet. The company had also proposed to use these details to target those users with specific advertising.
Incidetally, this dubious software had raked great criticism from different corners of the internet society in the United Kingdom, on the grounds that it would erode the privacy of the internet consumers. Despite attracting a great lot of criticism, the company held on to its view that the software was all about anonymity, besides providing the internet users with regular chances to turn it off.
The final and the most lethal blow to the company was effected by TalkTalk and BT, as they declined to accept the software, going back on a previous understanding with Phorm.
