The Hardware That You Need for Your Broadband

When subscribing to one of UK Broadband Internet providers, you might be appalled by the many hardware you are going to need. With a dial-up connection, all that is really required is a modem and a phone line. Basically, it's the same for a broadband connection too - but if you want to maximize its use, you have to invest on one or more hardware. Want to know more about them? Here's what you are going to need.

1. Modem. This one's provided by your chosen Internet service provider. While it is possible to buy this from a computer store, it needs to be configured in such a way the service provider's server can recognize the device. Even the cheapest broadband service providers around can give you a modem free of charge. So you really need not worry about this device.

2. Network Card. Because broadband Internet means speed, regular phone lines won't do. At least one Ethernet or network card should be installed in your computer system for the whole thing to work. Of course, the network card has to be connected to the modem with the use of an Ethernet cable.

3. Routers. Need to share your Internet access to other computers? Then you are going to need a router for that purpose. A router needs to be installed between your modem and your computer to do just that. Don't forget to set it up first, though. The router has to work harmoniously with your modem. Router manufacturers can help your with this detail.

4. Wireless access points. Before, wired connections are more than enough. But now, the freedom to move is equally important. Why use a laptop if you can't carry it anywhere you go without losing Internet access? Some routers have built-in access points. But if you want your whole house to be covered, you might need to install one or two access points to expand the range.
