April 15, 2007The Benefits of Using SSL VPNThe main advantage of adapting Secure Socket Layer on a Virtual Private Network can dramatically improve phone call quality for Voice over IP calls. Adding a secure socket layer VPN connection to a good broadband Internet connection causes voice transmission to improve. Right now, the average speed of UK broadband Internet is at 2 GB. VoIP uses just a fraction of that speed. To be exact, it only requires 64 kbps to operate. The extra bandwidth then is more than enough to fix any problems encountered regarding voice clarity. In general SSL VPN improves the overall performance of VoIP. Aside from good voice quality as previously stated, the connection also becomes a lot more secure than its traditional counterpart, the IPSec. The whole setup also ensures users of a cheaper cost on maintenance needs. In reality, IPSec is a lot difficult to maintain than SSL VPN. Plus, SSL VPN does not induce port blocking, which makes troubleshooting it a lot easier. Setting up SSL VPN is not a problem either. SSL VPN utilizes the same protocols as the Internet. And that basically means users don't need to learn entirely new principles or programs. And there are no technical jargons to understand either. Currently, software giants in the likes of Apple and Microsoft are developing ways and means to add the SSL protocol to their future operating systems. But the primary advantage of SSL VPN over a voice over IP network could just be the anywhere anytime access that it is capable of delivering. Most of UK broadband companies now support wireless VPN and VoIP connections. In effect, a subscriber needs not to be at his own computer in his home or office to be able to access the Internet securely and in the same settings that he requires. SSL VPN simply makes all of that possible. | ||
