The Availability of Broadband in the UK
The current trend today, as far as Internet access is concerned is to go broadband. Consumers of UK Broadband have different options to choose from. They can go cable, ADSL, or satellite for their high-speed Internet access needs. For residential customers, ADSL and cable are the ones popular. But given their popularity, they do have restrictions when it comes to coverage.
In all of UK, it is ADSL that rules. A lot of subscribers have ADSL Internet connection and much of that is because of the service’s capability to reach as much as 99% of businesses and homes in all of U.K. ADSL stands for asymmetric digital subscriber line. It is the type of services that uses regular phone lines as method of transmitting data from the main server to all subscribers. BT Broadband is UK’s primary ADSL Internet service provider. Right now, they are looking to improve their coverage from 99% to 99.8%. Almost perfect, isn’t it?
If ADSL broadband covers most of UK, cable broadband is only able to service half of that. With only 46% coverage, all cable Internet service providers in UK are joining hands to work on improving their numbers drastically. The top two cable companies of UK are Telewest and UK :ntl. If your area falls into the loop where they have their cable networks installed, then you can avail of their service. Else, you have to settle for some other provider.
And entirely because Broadband Internet access has a high rate of availability in all of UK, the competition between service providers is becoming fiercer by the minute. And so all of these players are striving to modify their service and be tagged as the cheapest broadband provider around. This way, they have better chances of getting a bigger share from the market.
