Wireless routers are devices that convert as well as broadcast the signals coming across the customer’s telephone cable around a fixed area. The wireless router works on a principle similar to that of a cordless home phone, as a wired router – commonly called a broadband router – are used in homes for connecting a fixed PC to the internet.

The broadband signals aired by the wireless routers are caught by devices such as netbooks, laptops and gaming consoles that are wireless enabled. Thus the consumer can have wireless broadband internet connectivity across his house and even to some distance outside of it.

Generally, WiFi packages include the wireless router that has already gained popularity among households where more than once device are connected to the web at the same time. Wireless routers enable internet connection for wireless enabled machines such as laptops, gaming consoles and computers.

Wireless routers can be used to make calls through voice over the internet protocol (VoIP), besides facilitating digital television services. The wireless broadband service is largely related to home broadband, although certain routers that can be used with mobile broadband have been developed by Huawei, the popular dongle manufacturer.

The customer can create a wireless mobile broadband network by simply plugging his USB dongle/stick into a wireless mobile broadband router.

router

The GSM we use is basically a circuit switched network. So, making calls with this GSM on a mobile computer became problematic. In order to overcome this inconvenience, CDPD is introduced and defined by cellular telecommunications and internet associations (CTIA). CDPD is nothing but Cellular Digital Packet Data technology which is mainly used for the data transfer in mobile services. The mechanism is entirely based on AMPS and in fact compatible with AMPS mobile devices with a range of about 800 MHz to 900MHz. A speed of 19.2 Kbps is possible with this CDPD. This CDPD is mainly used in cases of providing wireless internet access for the packet switched networks.

This 19.2 kbps speed of data delivery can be even achieved by an idle channel of 30 KHz. The net data rate of CDPD is around 9.6 Kbps. It basically supports TCP/IP protocol and all kinds of connectionless protocols. A wireless featured datagram along with connectionless protocols incorporated in a system which is being used by a mobile phone is the main fact behind the maximum number of users of this CDPD mechanism.

The entire OSI concepts are being used by the CDPD system. Modulation details and transmission of radio waves are related to physical layer. Similarly other layers of OSI too found but never used for any purposes. Three stations that are involved in CDPD are mobile hosts, base stations and base interface stations. Mobile hosts basically act as the portable computers of users. Transmitters come in the name of base stations. All the base stations of CDPD are linked together with the help of base interface stations which can beget further more transmissions via WAN.

Mainly three types of interfaces are involved in CDPD as E-interface (external), I-interface (internal) and A-interface (air). E is used to make the CDPD to be connected with a network. It can also be used to connect CDPD with a myriad of networks. I-interface is mainly used to interconnect two CDPD with each other. A is responsible for linking mobile hosts with the base stations.

Data transfer over the air interface undergoes certain authenticating processes as data compression, error correction and encryption for security purpose. Data compressions for 274 units and data encryption for 374 bits are applied using error detection and correction methods. For each and every block of bits, flag words of 6 bits are amended so as to make it around 420 blocks of bits. These blocks are further divided into micro blocks each of 60 bits. In cases of full duplex modes, 19.2 Kbps of downlink speed and over 19.2 Kbps of uplink speed are achieved. Hence both uplink and downlink channel allocation are taken place within a micro block which ends after 3.125 msec.

Downlink channel is comparatively easier to access than that of the uplink channels since the uplink channel is tricky in CDPD. Usually all kinds of internet service providers are supported by CDPD. Simply this CDPD is just the extension of traditional data networks which is built over an M-ES (Mobile End System). The message is finally delivered to the F-ES (Fixed End System). For the faster data transfer purposes in cellular devices, it is better to receive with this CDPD.

router

Bluetooth is one of the major technological advancements in the field of telecommunications where data is transferred from one mobile to another without use of cables. In other words, it is short distance wireless communication between two devices. It is done within a span of 10 meters. For the device to use Bluetooth technology, it must have profile capabilities. One of the profile capabilities is DUN. DUN stands for Dial Up Networking. It is based on Serial Port Profile.

Bluetooth DUN is a wireless internet technology. This wireless device is used to connect to the internet using Bluetooth enabled cell phone as modem. It is a wireless protocol that enables communication to take place in PAN (Personal Area Network). It mainly uses the frequency hopping technique to transfer data in short distances. To make use of Bluetooth DUN, a Bluetooth laptop along with Bluetooth enabled mobile phone is a must. If Bluetooth is not enabled in your laptop, then Bluetooth adapter can be used. First, switch on Bluetooth on both the devices. The laptop will then detect the mobile phone within the perimeter.

The mobile phone is then connected to the internet using dial up access phone number (which is provided by internet service provider). Once the mobile phone is discovered in your laptop, choose the dial up networking service provider. After selecting this option, Bluetooth adapter will enable the internet access. Another technique of accessing internet is through routers. The router is a network device which interfaces multiple networks. To enable a wireless network, multiple wireless ROUTERS must be placed within specified area, so that internet is accessed through laptop or mobile phones within the area. Such areas are termed as Wi-Fi hotspots. Some examples of Wi-Fi hotspots are airports, coffee shops, libraries, etc.

The main advantage of using DUN is that the technique of accessing internet is used in areas where Wi-Fi is not present. The Bluetooth devices are used instead of modem. It does not require direct line of sight connection. The Bluetooth can be used on different OS. It is very inexpensive as it requires only two devices (a laptop and Bluetooth enabled mobile). The drawback of Bluetooth is that speed is very low. It is in range of kbps. The internet connection through routers requires a modem.

The routers require a WIFI enabled device to access internet. It is too costly when compared to Bluetooth. The main advantage compared to Bluetooth is speed. The speed of router connection is in range of Giga hertz. In router connection, multiple computers can access internet (by forming a network). In Bluetooth connection, the specific device can only access net, which is very slow. The router is used for providing internet within LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network) and sometimes even MAN (Metropolitan Area Network), whereas Bluetooth is used only for PAN (Personal Area Network). The antenna is main component of router. The powerful antennas are used to boost the signal strength.

The Bluetooth enabled internet connection leads to heavy loss of data packets. The wireless router would minimize data loss and transmit packets efficiently. Both the above devices have advantages and disadvantages. The wireless routers form a major role for high speed broadband connection in WIFI hotspots and thus, cannot be eliminated. From the above facts, it is clearly understood that routers play a pivotal role in high speed internet access and therefore cannot be eliminated.
