Vodafone is planning to launch a hardware called femtocell, which expectantly makes usage of mobile devices at home, easier. This tiny base station, according to the makers, functions by promoting mobile signals within the home. This hardware introduced by the Vodafone has been named Access Gateway.

The Access Gateway will hit the market on the first of July with a price tag of GBP160. One interested, can also buy it for a GBP5 monthly charge as easy installments, or a mobile deal marked by a monthly payment of GBP 15.

This device that works with any mobile phone supporting 3G (third generation UMTS, HSPA or HSDPA) technology, also supports four calls at a time. Vodafone claimed that it had been trialing this technology, ardently for the past six months. Those willing to sign up for this gadget are required to register the call routing mobile phones through the gadget. This facility helps the customers to use their mobile phone without any signal disturbance around the house.

According to the manufacurers, the femtocells were useful for its proposed capability of supporting an extended range of services. It is also expected to help in the growth of mobile broadband as well as the data use in smartphones and enterprise mobile phones. It is all the more significant in the circumstances considering the rapid growth of this segment.

The femtocells also come into limelight as many networks were struggling in installing more base stations to cope with the boost in the usage. If there is another way to handle the problem it is the more demanding procedure of adding more capacity to their networks.
