TalkTalk, the leading business broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom has told the Members of the Parliament and Peers last day that copyright content of the internet could not be protected by the Digital Economy Bill.

In the case presented by TalkTalk, one of the leading internet service providers in the country that offered broadband and home phone bundle packages it was categorically outlined that the Bill would only encourage the consumers to come up with fresh methods to tackle the implemented restrictions.

Furthermore, the broadband provider showed in its case, examples of a few of the tools, which were avalilable for the people currently to carry on with the illegal filesharing practices evading the restrictions.

The examples shown by TalkTalk included tools to rip cpyright material from iPlayer-like music players and the TV, non-UK websites, which streamed sporting events at pay-per-view, services that conceal the IP addresses of consumers with a view to avoid detection, and application to catalogue after downloading tracks from chosen artists by scanning internet radio stations.

Meanwhile, the broadband provider also stressed the point that financial requirements were not always the reason behind the users resorting to cppyright content theft, but a good number of people were simply irked by the restrictions – on the media on sales – by the digital rights management.

The United Kingdom faces disruption of the radio spectrum auctions planned by the current government, in the year’s political developments that could result from the upcoming general election.

It is quite apparent that the telecommunications regulator of the United Kingdom, Ofcom had long cherished plans to auction off two radio spectrum chunks – one of around 2.6GHz that was previusly earmarked for 3G mobile broadband services, and and the other of around 800MHz. The fixed-line and mobile broadband internet market experts in the United Kingdom has started thinking about the viability of the spectrum re-using plans of the current government, in the light of a more obtruding fact that the regulator itself getting abolished in the near future.

Therefore, now it is almost confirmed that the efforts to inject fresh services on the UK radio spectrum’s little-used areas would hit an iceberg that would start melting by only by next year. Ironically, by this time a changed government might just have the regulator itself abolished, as the Tories have already pledged to do this once they assume the power.

Meanwhile, those supporters of the spectrum auction that persistently seek a loop hole to carry on with the auction process, any such moves are shelved currently due to a prevailing political indecision, which was revealed by the experts that spoke at a Westminster eForum’s public discussion.

It is quite interesting to see that even the person who was bestowed upon the onus of carrying out the auctions smoothly and at the earliest by the Labour government, Kip Meek saying that ‘a policy making orphan’ was what the spectrum issue had turned out to be. It was not just Meek who had turned a pessimist regarding the issue, but also many others including Rod Kirwan, Denton Wilde Sapte’s telecoms lawyer that said he did not think the auction would happen in 2010.

The video gaming industry of the United Kingdom has been reported struggling to keep pace with international competition. This has been reported by the representatives of big time gaming firms such as Codemasters and Eidos.

The representatives of popular gaming firms were speaking for the Westminster eForum at a gathering in Whitehall. Of the lot, Eidos’s Ian Livingstone, Codemasters’ Chris Deering and the brain behind Elite, the cult game, David Braben were the most important ones. The gathering discussed the requirements of the games industry and wanted it to be included by the government in its pre-budget report.

The widespread notion of the gathering was that speeds of broadband internetservices had a significant role in the speculated downfall of the games industry of the United Kingdom, particularly for the reason that many popular games that were money spinning, currently depended on internet features.

According to the vice president of Electronic Arts for Northern Europe, Keith Ramsdale, getting broadband speeds of 2Mbps by 2012 was hardly ambitious enough. He added that the broadband internet pipe was expected to be more faster and thicker.

A good number of speakers at the Westminster eForum claimed that it was increasingly significant for the economy of the country than the film industry. However, most of them maintained that the industry unfortunately was a declining one.

The Advertising Standards Authority for the United Kingdom had last day given the leading cable broadband provider operating in the country a rebuke following the ISP’s highlighting a misleading cost savings comparison against Sky in some of the direct mailing advertisements for its phone and TV services.

The broadband provider at the receiving end; Virgin Media, to add to its woes (it is better said as insult to injury) had further made many blunders in the broadband comparison such as failing to mention the price of its own broadband internet service against a similar product of Sky.

The challenge made by Sky was on the point that the price comparison table highlighted by Virgin Media failed in including the price of the broadband package offered by it, while comparing it with a package of Sky, which included broadband service as well.

Eventually, the advertising watchdog of the United Kingdom; ASA asked Virgin Media to make sure that the basis of comparisons were made clear by them in the future. It further warned the provider of the fastest broadband package in the country not to come up with
advertisements in the current form.

Sky is one of the prominent broadband TV phone bundle providers operating in the United Kingdom, which had been in loggerheads with Virgin Media and BT in the recent times regarding disputes on the TV services.
