The much relieved internet-savvy across Europe can now access broadband internet access as fast as 10Mbps throughout the continent; thanks to a freshly launched satellite that is offering fast broadband across the continent.

The high-capacity satellite – KA-SAT of Eutelsat, after getting launched in December, will be offering broadband access at 10Mbps speed to consumers and service of up to 50Mbps to the businesses. More importantly the company is offering susch speeds to the consumers regardless of their location. The previous satellite broadband service of Eutelsat had been offering speeds of up to 3.6Mbps.

The new satellite broadband service offered by Eutelsat boasts of a total capacity of 70Gbps that according to the claims of the company would be offering coverage to up to 1.5 million consumers, across not just Europe, but North Africa as well.

Meanwhile, compared to the traditional fixed-line broadband internet access, satellite broadband is bugged by latency issues. Nevertheless, the chief of Skylogic UK, a subsidiary of Eutelsat, Steve Petrie has said that VoIP was working on the service, while support for IPTV and video on demand would be soon following.

Petrie admitted that gaming remained an issue owing to the delays, which meant that the gamers engaging in shooting games were likely to get killed more often than not.

Eutelsat exclusively wholesales the service, which is then sold on by Tooway distributors, with an anticipated price of GBP 24.99 per month for a package that offers the speed of 6Mbps and limited to just 4G usage allowance. On the other hand, a package that offers 10Mbps speeds will come at least with a GBP 49.99 per month price tag.

There were a number of people in the United Kingdom that sternly believed that a European satellite broadband firm’s launching a satellite broadband service in the United Kingdom would provide many people in the country’s rural areas with the opportunity of enjoying adequate access to broadband internet.

There are a good number of people across the United Kingdom that live in remote areas where broadband is not accessible easily. This is also the reason why a number of people living in the rural areas, which have been classed as hard to reach spots, realise that they are left with a little or no access at all to broadband services.

Now that it has been announced that a European internet service provider would be launching a satellite broadband service in the United Kingdom that offers the people living in the rural areas the opportunity to access broadband internet speeds of up to 10Mbps, hopes of addressing the lack of access issues would also be rekindled.

According to reports, a GBP 4 million deal has been struck between the European broadband providers Skylogic and Avonline, the satellite broadband specialist, which would mean that Skylogic’s Tooway satellite broadband service will be open to Avonline for selling in the United Kingdom.

The most refreshing news here is that the proposed satellite broadband coverage for the United Kingdom is hundred percent. This means the consumers in even the hard to reach, remote areas will be able to enjoy the service by getting their required access.

With Skylogic, the popular broadband firm based in Europe announcing that it would be selling its telecommunications services in the United Kingdom as part of an agreement signed with Avonline, one of the leading satellite communications provider of Europe, it is apparent that the country is preparing to embrace satellite broadband in a more serious way.

The GBP 4 million contract signed between Skylogic and Avonline will see the latter sell the Tooway satellite broadband service of the former in remote and rural United Kingdom. The significant fact is that this broadband service is capable of offering broadband connections speeds of up to 10Mbps in the rural areas.

Tooway satellite broadband comes with the support of a special infrastructure across the continent, even while being delivered to the United Kingdom via satellite. This infrastructure includes eight fibre optic cable connected satellite gateways.

According to the claims of the managing director of Avonline, Mark Wynn, across the last decade, Avonline has managed to remain at the forefront of satellite communications solutions in the United Kingdom.

Wynn also expressed the company’s delight in being the first major satellite service supplier in the United Kingdom to sign a deal for the Tooway nextgeneration satellite broadband service. This service, which would cover cent percent of the country will make sure that all that required a reliable and fast broadband connection could get connected.

Hylas 1, the broadband satellite launched recently by the prominent satellite broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom, Avanti Communications has successfully passed all the necessary tests and is waiting on its wings to start rolling out its ISP services.

However, there are still questions remaining about who would be consuming the service offered by the fully operational broadband satellite.

2010 November had witnessed the successful launch of Hylas 1; nevertheless it has only turned fit for commercial services recently following the completion of testing last week. The company expects the first customers to get broadband access in the next two weeks.

European Union had part funded Hylas 1, although the major bulk of the money has been shelled out by Avanti Communications that looks ahead to wholesale satellite broadband access to Europe’s rural areas not serviced by 3G, 4G, White Space or ADSL.

Incidentally, half of the expenses incurred for the research and development of Hylas 1 was met by the European Union and the United Kingdom, through the Advance Research in Telecommunications Systems (ARTES) programme.

Meanwhile, the payment for the satellite had been made by Avanti Communications itself. The company is further planning to retrieve that money by offering rural broadband to the people that cannot acquire it by any other means.

The new broadband internet satellite that was launched from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur satellite launching station, according to the representatives of the company, was potential of bringing broadband service to residential users and businesses across Europe and Mediterranean region.

Incidentally, Ka-sat the newly launched satellite is British satellite company Eutelsat’s third broadband satellite launched over the past six weeks. This satellite is due in service from next year onwards. The technology of Ka Sat has been based on SkyTerra 1, a satellite that has been launched in November this year to deliver internet service to the consumers in North America.

Eutelsat had also launched Hylas 1, another satellite at the end of November this year for providing broadband UK coverage for Europe. Hylas 1 would cover European countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal, Spain and Easter Europe, while SkyTerra 1 targets the coverage across North America.

According to the claims made by the representatives of Eutelsat, the freshly launched satellite is capable of boosting the internet access speeds of up to 10Mbps from the satellite. It will also provide speeds of up to 4Mbps to the satellite. The satellite is believed to emerge handy for serving both digital TV and digital cinema distribution.

A satellite broadband and equipment service has already been offered by Eutelsat under the banner of Tooway that was launched in the year 2009. As of now, Tooway is providing a two way satellite broadband service that boasts of download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps for prices ranging between GBP 22 and GBP 90 per month in the United Kingdom.
