Orange sources has announced fresh mobile broadband services for its subscribers, which means cheap rates of roaming data.

According to the announcement made by the prominent mobile broadband operator in the United Kingdom, the GBP 1.73 daily rate for 2MB of roaming data that was introduced originally in Romania and Spain has now been opened up for customers in other countries as well, including for those in Poland, France and the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, ZDNet sees a pitfall here as the fresh move from Orange could well mean that mobile broadband customers could be vulnerable to a charge of GBP 3 per MB if they do not opt for a daily bundle, price of something that can vary from the fresh rate to GBP 8.50 for 50MB.

On the other hand, Orange’s devices division head Yves Maitre said that the fresh rate of GBP 1.73 or Euro 2 would only help many mobile broadband internet customers steer clear of the bill shock when checking their bill charges after spending time abroad.

It is worth mentioning here that YouGov, the independent body for market intelligence had through a research at the beginning of this month, named Orange as the best mobile broadband supplier operating in the United Kingdom.

It has been reported that the consumer groups were pressing for a detailed probe into the untoward effects on the United Kingdom market triggered by the Orange-T-Mobile merger that has been already announced. The consumer groups’ main requirement is the ensuring of a comprehensive exploration of the merger’s potential effect on the market after the completion.

The consumer groups; Communications Consumer Panel and Consumer Focus, have urged the Brussels commissioner for competition, in a joint letter, to approve an official probe into the matter. As a matter of fact, the move from the part of the groups was inspired by some comments on the context published in Which?, the consumer body. The comments said that the proposed merger made a deep look at the state of the mobile broadband internet market of the UK a necessity.

The letter contained issues such as the adverse effects inflicted on the 3G mobile networks by an absence of competitive innovation, the allocation of the spectrum and the potentially big chunk of spectrum, the new entity could run away with. The letter also include concerns on the negative impact that the merger could have on the virtual mobile broadband network operators of the United Kingdom that did not possess their own networks, instead leased capacity from the network operators for providing services.

It is also apparent that CCP and Consumer focus are hoping for British authorities to exercise control over the decision of the entities to merge. The control rights currently vest with Brussels. When the control rights are repatriated to the authorities in the UK, it would forward the decision and the investigations surrounding it, over to the Competition Commission and the Office of Fair Trading.

This has been revealed by the mobile broadband supplier that has been in the news for some time now for its merging operations with Orange, another mobile broadband giant in the United Kingdom. According to the mobile broadband ISP, it was working with e-Learning Foundation to enhance broadband internet services for the Cheshire school pupils.

It has also been reported that the pair were working as a team to ensure the opportunity of enjoying internet access, to the students at Warrington’s Alderman Bolton Primary School.

Meanwhile, the technology website PublicTechnology reported that a mobile broadband trial scheme trial was being carried out in the area, according to which those people without a home internet connection would be provided with mobile broadband dongles of the UK ISP.

According to T-Mobile’s national public sector manager for sales, Stuart Taylor, the mobile broadband provider could help reach the benefits of access to broadband internet to all students regardless of their social or economic situation. He added that the ISP also enabled students to enjoy internet access, which could be used in an array of situations and locations via the mobile broadband high speed service.

The leading broadband providers operating in the United Kingdom, Virgin Media and BT are understood to be working as a team on a fresh project, which is all about enhancing the online video service quality.

The new scheme that involves the two leading cable broadband providers in the United Kingdom, is all about one where videos would be availed on a network, instead of being on the internet. This move mulled by the two broadband giants is with a view to reduce congestion that may affect the delivery of other services.

According to fresh reports published in the leading newspaper the Guardian, the prominent fixed-line broadband provider in the United Kingdom, B T was teaming with Virgin Media and Orange besides broadcasters on the network of Content Connect.

It is expected that the new scheme would urge the broadband providers in the country to enjoy a decent return on web-based devices by investing in their networks. It is also believed that unless the investment was carried out it is hardly a possibility for the ISPs to benefit from this.

BT Wholesale’s director for broadband, Sian Baldwin revealed to the newspaper that they could not say that all the broadband providers got into a stand-off, where they threatened to disconnect the traffic access to YouTube or Apple, even though his predictions there was a situation that would force them to.
