The research has been carried out by the survey body Point Topic that has revealed that the fibre optic broadband technology has emerged as the dearest choice in terms of total cost, although the remarkable speeds delivered by it meant that it offered high value for money.

The survey finds that DSL broadband services are the most expensive broadband internet options when weighed on a per Megabit basis, even though they tend to be the cheapest when weighed on a monthly basis.

Fiona Vanier, the spokesperson for the research agency opined that cable broadband technology, the last of the three major technologies, was caught in the middle. She substantiated the statement by the explanation that cable broadand providers could seldom offer the highest broadband speeds in the regions where fibre broadband was rolled out, and could not offer the cheapest prices in those areas served by the DSL technologies, therefore they forged a middle path.
