UK ISP veteran Pipex is soon going to be taken over by any one of the other competitor setting its eyes to corner the company.

In 1991, UK’s first commercial internet service provider, Pipex came into picture and appointed an investment bank to facilitate them through the sales options. Other current major ISP’s today like BT, Orange, Tiscali, Carphone Warehouse, BskyB have even considered once to venture with Pipex to improve there financial condition.

Pipex broadband has been undergoing acquisitions and consolidation with other major ISP’s, all of them having a successful broadband service which could give them good amount of Pipex’s customers. Carphone Warehouse had good amount of additional infrastructure which could give them an advantage in handling extra load of more customers.

Pipex is rated as the sixth largest UK broadband service provider with almost around 570000 broadband internet customers and had faced major crisis since the national ad campaign was run by David Hasselhoff last year resulted into bad to worst service ratings.

The packages of Pipex broadband services are created for each type of internet user, the first one Pipex have is the Pipex Mini package in which your bandwidth is limited to a low 2GB, however this is fine for people who just want to browse the internet and check there emails at the speed of broadband, the next package is Pipex Midi in which you have 15GB, which is a nice amount if you want to browse the internet and maybe download some music of Itunes, however it is not suited for those who want to download some Itunes movies. The last package is the unlimited one, PipexMax. PipexMax has no limits however is bound by a Fair usage policy, however we could not find anyone who has been effected by the Pipex fair usage policy so it is safe to say anyone downloading some movies and music is not going to get effected buy the fair usage policy. Offers & Freebies. Pipex internet like most other ISPs offers you more than just broadband. Each one of the pipex offers free email accounts, the number of free email accounts however depends on what package you have chosen, for example Midi gets only 1 and Max gets 5, each email box comes with a large 100MB worth of space, meaning you won’t keep having to delete your emails. All accounts also come with web space, with a FTP account so you can share your creations on-line with friends and anyone who might be interested, once again the amount of space you get is dependant on what package you choice, Max gets 250MB. Connection hardware You get a free modem with the account however it is a shame not to see a router like AOL, meaning if you want to connect more than one computer to the internet you are going to need to invest in a router, these normally cost 20-50 GBP, you also have to pay to get the modem posted to you. It is a shame to see that Pipex have not taken the route that AOL and other providers have taken by offering fully free routers, and it means some not so tech-savy people may get confused and avoid this service. The pricing on Pipex is as below, you can also sign up to there phone service and save some money on the broadband but in the end pay more as you are also paying for a phone service!
