The ADSL Lite business broadband package offered currently by Fasthosts Internet provides the customers a monthly data download allowance of 20GB, along with the ADSL Premium package that offers unlimited plans and the ADSL 2 Plus package.

The small Norfolk-based business leaders have expressed their backing for a council bid for funding for the broadband infrastructure of the country, alongside claiming that high speed broadband service rolled out in the area would help its businesses boost their competitiveness.

Incidentally, Norfolk County Council has been bidding for a chunk of the GBP 530 million made available by the government through the body set up by it, Broadband Delivery UK. This body, widely known as BDUK will be responsible for rolling out superfast broadband across the United Kingdom.

To be preciser, Broadband Delivery UK has been engaged by the government to make sure that all the homes in the country have access to at least 2Mbps broadband speed by the year 2015.

According to Anglia Farmers’ chief executive officer, Clarke Willis, broadband internet was not simply a toy, instead was a pretty significant tool that could boost business in the country.

This view of Willis is more significant when put against the fact that quite many businesses in the rural United Kingdom were either being served with broadband internet connection speeds less than 1Mbps or not able to get broadband access at all.

Somerset County Council had only recently put together a GBP 7 million cross-party bid of government funding for establishing super-fast broadband internet infrastructure in the area.

An increased number of business persons in the United Kingdom are turning out tobe dependant on services such as home and mobile broadband mainly with a view to carrying on with their routine work over the holidays.

Some recent reports have cited an increasing number of self employed and business people becoming dependant on home and mobile broadband services for continuing their work over the festive season. It is also noteworthy that as Christmas Day of 2010 is past a good number of people are reported to have spent at least some hours working on their home broadband or mobile brodband connection.

Even though the Christmas Day has passed, a good number of offices as well as workplaces would continue in their closed status until well after the New Year. This means that people would be hardly able to access their office physically for trying catching up with work during the holidays.

A good number are understood to be relying on their home as well as mobile broadband services for continuing with their work over the holidays.

According to a self employed person, he had used home and mobile broadband intensely over the holidays, as that was a pleasant as well non-crowded time of the year. He claimed the he used the opportunity for catching up with paperwork as well as tying up loose ends.

This person added that a good number of people could seldom afford to take a neat break owing to the fact that there existed simply too much to be done; which reflected the fact that enjoying broadband access at the home or on the move was of real help.

To be preciser, the research showed that 87 per cent of the country’s businesses have broadband connections.

Furthermore, the latest survey carried out by the Office of National Statistics showed that 6.8 million employees in the United Kingdom used internet at their work places.

It is also intriguing that the research results showed more than three fourths of the companies employing more than ten workers that have online presence through their websites. Nevertheless, only 15 per cent of the companies reported sales over the internet.

It is also noteworthy that the ecommerce revenues in the United Kingdom reached GBP 408 billion in the year 2009 with sales over the internet rising by 25 per cent year on year. Meanwhile, sales through websites surged to GBP 115 billion reflecting a growth of 23.6 per cent compared to the previous year.

The report added that more than half the total consumers in 2009 had gone opnline to purchase services and products, while only 33 per cent engaged in internet shopping during the year 2008. The number of firms that used internet for managing office as well as transactions has also surged in the recent years.

For completing its latest survey, the Office for National Statistics had considered ony those companies in the United Kingdom that had over ten employees.

Some recent developments taking place in the world have driven broadband market experts to believe that popular games and sports events had the potential to trigger an increase in business broadband traffic.

According to a report publshed by Star UK, one of the leading business internet service providers operating in the United Kingdom, the network traffic from 3500 of its business broadband customers surged by 50 per cent during lunchtime on Tuesday, as the employees had logged on to the network during work hours to enjoy the Ryder Cup as well as the Indian Commonwealth Game’s first day’s action.

The business broadband provider that offers the businesses, on-demand computing and communications services, noted that the surge in business broadband traffic can be generally attributed to the employees watching the games using internet video services such as YouTube or the BBC iPlayer as the medium. It is worth mentioning here that this easily can use up hundreds of MBs in a short period of time.

Another factor that plays an important role in boosting the consumption of bandwidth is the extra traffic triggered around such events as workers tend to share their experience with their family, friends and colleagues via social networking websites and other related services.

These observations have obviously made the thinktanks of the various business broadband service operators in the country to anticipate a heavier surge in the business broadband traffic during the Olympic Games to be held in the United Kingdom in 2012, and start thinking about counter measures for tackling as well as making the most of the situation in a positive manner.

It is also worth putting here the thoughts of the COO of Star UK, John Adey that the main sorting events had the tendency to surge the demand on the internet traffic as the workers expected to follow the performance of their teams and favourite sport events over the internet. He also called for provisions to be made by IT departments for ensuring that the key network applications are not affected for the business to ontinue as normal.
