Student punished for hacking into Facebook
Glenn Mangham, a British student from Yorkshire is sentenced to prison for eight months, for trying to hack Facebook. The 26 year old, defends his action and said that he was trying to underline the lax security of the company. Invaluable and intellectual property has been collected by the boy after breaking into the Facebook systems. He had used the account of a Facebook staffer who was on holiday.
Mangham attack was methodical. The prosecutors at Southwark Crown Court dimissed his claims of ethical hacking. This is one of the critical and extensive social media hacking heard in the British courts. He was determined and had definite ingenuity, said prosecutor Sandip Patel to the court.
The breach was found out by the social networking website on May 2011 and was concerned about the data downloaded by Mangham. FBI raided Mangham’s home the very next month. He is considered as a digital pioneer who is keen to discover hidden vulnerabilities by the defense.
Lawyer Tony Ventham, said that Mangham had signs of Asperger syndrome. The judge said that intension of Mangham was not directed towards making money or abusing contents. However, his actions were serious enough to give him prison sentence. Hacking into a social networking site will get him custodial sentence.
