Sony Portable Playstation users to get VoIP

Sony has announced that its Portable Playstation (PSP) customers will get an additional feature with their devices that will enable them to make VoIP calls using their device. The existing customers who are enabled with broadband service can use Skype to avail this service.

“Users will be able to call friends, talk trash to fellow gamers, and catch up with acquaintances via Skype for PSP.” The company said.

The leading VoIP service provider Skype will offer this facility to nearly 250 million Sony PSP customers who can use SkypeOut to make calls to fixed telephones as well as mobile numbers. They can also receive calls through Skypein. The price for using this facility will be announced soon. The service is expected to be launched by the end of January.

The VoIP call facility will be available for the Sony PSP customers who are enabled with wireless broadband access. Other requirements to access this service include memory stick duo and a handset or audio equipment that can work with Skype VoIP service.

In recent times, gaming consoles are becoming quite popular and commonplace among the internet users. The popular consoles like Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation come with additional features that make them to be used with broadband. For instance, Microsoft announced that its Xbox device is to be made compatible with BT Vision thus combing the excellent features of both BT Vision and Xbox 360 to provide different kind of visual experience to their customers.
