Sky Songs: The New Legal Music Download Service from BskyB

BskyB, better known as Sky Broadband has finally realised its long term vision of a legal music download service powered by broadband. For the materialisation of this concept, the renowned broadband ISP of the UK has partnered with Universal Music. The new launch will be called Sky Songs. Reports state that it is all about a four tier service, each tier offering unlimited streaming.

The dearest tier of the service is one that allows the download of twenty tracks or a couple of complete albums that would come with a price tag of GBP11.99, as the cheapest tier would be the five track download offering plan costing GBP 4.99 a month.

Many experts of the relevant sector have expressed their concerns on the new service’s attractiveness, considering the fact that many free streaming services already functioning in the segment, such as Spotify and Amazon whose individual DRM free tracks is charged as little as 29p. Note that Amazon’s audio download’s quality can be more variable than some.

Experts also believe that some introductory as well as enticing offers from the ISPs, accompanying the launch of the new proposals would do a world of good for the launch itself, as 5 tracks at GBP 4.99 seems too expensive at least in the present economic conditions. Moreover, the precise estimation of streaming value is also pretty demanding. Whatsoever, the customers are the final authority to give a suitable verdict.
