It is a widespread news today that the current regime is increasedly looking on to satellite and mobile broadband sectors to practically act as the bridging force over the digital gaps in the country left over by the fixed line broadband segment. It is also calculated that currently only 70 percent of the total UK population would be able to enjoy internet access. Here prevails the new expression ‘broadband notspots’.

Satellite Broadband to Tackle NotspotsInitially, the government had put the onus on the mobile broadband segment of the country to come with a viable solution for the situation. Here, the mobil;e broadband sector proved nothing less than a spoilsport to the government’s ambitions, as they played it down stating it economically not viable for them to extend their service to the proposed rural areas. Moreover, they were preoccupied in quarrelling on the 900 MHz spectrum.

This situation, nevertheless proved to be a breather for the satellite broadband segment, which was until recently kept underestimated by both the government as well as other sectors. This was mainly due to the high expenditure warranted by this technology to be rolled out. However, today more and more satellite broadband ISPshave been coming forward claiming that they could not only bridge the digital depressions, but also reduce costs considerably.
