Regulators reassured by Virgin Media over Piracy Monitoring

Virgin Media Anti-Piracy TechnologyThe leading cable broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom, Virgin Media has reassured the regulating bodiesĀ  of the industry over its illegal-online filesharing mobitoring technology use.

To be more precise, the fibre broadband and broadband bundle provider has said to the regulators that its engaging the freshly designed technology for piracy monitoring, would not bring any harm on the customers.

The broadband provider that is popular in the country for its fibre broadband, home phone and digital TV bundles further said to a number of communications bodies that its trialling the technology developed by Detica. would seldom impact on the privacy of the customers as well.

Meanwhile, The Register has observed that the explanation from Virgin Media emphasised the fact that while the system would reveal the volume of illegal downloading of copyright content taking place on the ISP’s network, it would refrain from identifying the responsible customers.

Virgin Media has told the website that they have been communicating with all the relevant bodies including the EC, the ICO and Ofcom with assurance that they had the needed information to build an informed judgement on their planned trial.
