Free Broadband access and Laptops for Poor UK Homes
It has been reported that Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Gordon Brown would provide 270,000 poor British families with free laptops with broadband internet access. According to sources close to Brown, the freshly proposed scheme would help the low-income households in the country, considerably by helping them track the performance of their children at school.
It was further reported that the Prime Minister’s recent allocation of GBP 300 million for this project greatly reflects his aim to provide all homes in the United Kingdom with a reasonably fast broadband internet access.
It was at a forum for international education held in Westminster, where the Prime Minister had announced the free laptop broadband access scheme. Alongside, he said that he wanted every home in the United Kingdom to be connected with a school, besides his aim to convert every household in the country to a broadband home. The news was reported by All News Headlines, a US-based website.
The website’s report also quoted Brown as saying that the schools in the United Kingdom could guarantee the children’s parents of the academic performance of the children by 2010 for all secondary schools and by 2012, for all primary educational institutions. This comment from Brown predominantly points to the urgency in providing connectivity to the families in the UK.
It is understood that the promise made by the Prime Minister would feature in children, schools and families bill that would be debated on Monday.
