Online Shopping Safety Tips Given by Ofcom

Online Shopping Safety Tips frm OfcomAs Christmas is just a few weeks ahead, it was warned that an increased number of shoppers tended to ignore the high street enticement, to follow the craze of ordering on the internet. This inclination of the people in the United Kingdom has prompted the telecommunications regulator of the country, Ofcom to issue a fresh advice for the consumers on how to shop online safely.

As part of this move, the week between November 16 and November 20 has been dubbed as the Get Safe Online week, chiefly with a view to increase awareness of broadband internet safety issue among people. Moreover, the video presentation that advises the consumers to secure themselves by avoiding pitfalls while shopping online, has been launched as part of the support rendered by Ofcom.

The telecommunications watchdog also uses the video presentation to advise the buyers over the internet to ensure that their personal computers or laptops were fortified with the most advanced versions of protective firewall and anti-virus software. Ofcom also urges the shoppers to use the credit cards in the place of debit cards while engaging in purchase on the internet for anything that costs more than GBP 100.

This opportunity has been taken by the telecommunications regulator to make the customers realise that they are entitled to a cooling term of seven days to change their mind over something that was purchased over the internet. Ofcom also made it clear that when they purchased from a supplier or seller based in the United Kingdom, they were provided with the same rights those were provided to those who shopped on the high street.
