Ofcom UK appoint Mansoor Hanif as new CTO

Ofcom, UK’s telecommunications and media regulator, has informed that they have appointed Mansoor Hanif as their new Chief Technology Officer. Mansoor Hanif is the former Director of BT’s EE. He is taking over position of Steve Unger (departed in June 2018) with effect from September 17, 2018.

Mansoor Hanif was lastly worked as Director in BT’s Converged Networks Research Lab and he was leading research in fixed line and mobile networks. Before that, he was the Network Director at EE.

He is having expertise of working in various engineering and telecommunications companies. He has many years of experience not only in launching 4G networks but also he was part of the merger of Orange & T Mobile with EE.

To have better understanding of the markets that the regulator looks after, it is a common practise to appoint a person from the same industry. Like that, the operators sometimes appoint ex regulatory officials.

Mansoor Hanif said that the regulatory authority Ofcom regulating the industries which are growing tremendously due to technological innovation. He is excited to work in Ofcom at this juncture when 5G mobile, ultrafast broadband and Internet of Things are converging to transform the sector to increase productivity. He added that his priority will be to support Ofcom to gain the growth of secure, world class and universal services in the UK with most innovative and creative technology.

Ofcom’s CEO, Sharon White said that she is happy for his appointment and with the support of his CTO role which helps to ensure updations on Ofcom’s work with current technology developments and that helps them in regulation works effectively.
