Ofcom releases Telecommunications market data tables

Ofcom, the telecom regulator released Telecommunications market data tables featuring a comparison of data like the number of broadband uptake, the number of LLU lines and the revenues earned by the telecom operations and UK ISPs during the last two years.

Accordingly, the total number of broadband connections in UK that are used by households and SME sector has reached 14,365,000 by the end of second quarter of 2007, nearly 70 %  rise when compared with 2005. Likewise, the LLU lines have increased ten times during the last two years. There were just 201,000 LLU lines by the end of 2005, now UK has more than 2,432,000 LLU lines which are owned by many leading ISPs. BT Retail and Virgin Media top the table with connections 3,715,000 and 3,192,000 respectively.

While analyzing data, one could see that there was rapid growth in broadband take-up and LLU lines during first quarter of 2006. However, the statistics shows the broadband growth has become a little sluggish during the second quarter of 2007 when compared with previous quarter. This can be attributed to customers’ growing dissatisfaction with service providers. Another recent survey also showed that most of the ISPs have just less than 30 % of their customers who have expressed their complete satisfaction with their services.
