Ofcom gives nod to radio spectrum auction
The UK telecom regulator Ofcom is to release the details on the auction of radio spectrum plans that will be used by wireless broadband services such as 3G and WiMAX and mobile broadband operators and the auction of different radio spectrum is likely to be announced in the next few months.
The main points of Ofcom’s plans are as follows:
Ofcom’s spectrum plans will offer 2.6 GHZ with bandwidth ranging between 2010 to 2025 MHz and 2500 to 2690.
The auction will be made on a basis that will ensure impartiality and will enable various operators to choose the suitable bandwidth to provide the best, high speed services to the end users.
Ofcom has planned to offer 205 MHZ to various operators during auction.
As wireless broadband services are on growing demand in the UK, there is much more to be done in this area that will offer high speed internet services as well as a wide range of choices to the end users. It should be noted that Ofcom has earlier announced that it would release 400 MHZ radio spectrum in the coming years.
