O2 is to launch broadband services in the UK
O2, the Spanish mobile company which owns UK ISP Be is to launch its long awaited fast broadband services in the UK by the third week of October. Saying that O2 would keep in mind the present scenario of UK broadband industry where poor customer service, technical issues and hidden costs are common place, Matthew Key, the UK CEO of O2 also added that O2 would not follow the path of its competitors like the Carphone Warehouse or Orange who use give away marketing strategy. He also disclosed the price of three packages that O2 is going to launch during the initial phase.
Accordingly, the customers who have signed up for O2 customers will get £10 off when they sign up for the new broadband packages while the other customers need to pay this additional cost along with the monthly cost of any package. The proposed three broadband packages are as follows:
The entry-level package which offers 8 Mb download speed will cost £7.5 per month. The second package will offer 16 Mb download speed for a monthly cost of £10 while the third broadband plan which is also the unlimited broadband packages of all, will offer 24 Mb download speed costing £15 per month. According to the CEO’s statement, the customers of O2 will get free, reliable, 24/7 customer support.
O2 which has achieved 50 percent of penetration of the broadband population in the UK, has so far been targeting only the urban areas. Key said that the company is to shift its focus on other areas too, taking the consumer demand into consideration.
O2 has also announced that the customers of its new broadband services would get access to the social networking site Myspace.com from November this year as it has signed a pact with Myspace.
