The survey conducted by the broadband comparison site Moneysupermarket.com reveals that O2 broadband provider offers faster and more reliable connection speeds than other providers in the UK.

Most UK ISPs offer 8Mb broadband to their customers, however, the actual speeds that their customers get, often significantly differ from what are being advertised. As broadband speeds are affected by the factors like the distance of consumer’s premises from the exchanges and also line quality, lot many customers get less than half of the advertised speeds. It should be noted that the UK telecom regulator, Ofcom has asked the broadband providers to be more transparent in their advertising of the maximum speeds as they often fail to give the real picture of what speeds their customers are actually getting.

However, a few broadband suppliers like O2, Be do offer more reliable speeds that are nearer to the advertised speeds, according to the present report and other earlier surveys. It should be noted that both O2 and Be are business arms of O2 Telefonica, the Spanish based telecom company.

Moneysupermarket Report shows that the customers of O2 get up to 5 Mbps download speeds, which is pretty higher, when compared with other broadband services. O2 also offer two packages that offer 16Mbps and 20Mbps download speeds respectively.

Rob Barnes of Moneysupermarket.com said:

"O2 has sped its way to the top of the broadband league offering a great package. However, broadband in Britain is still lagging, especially when the second best connection is only half the advertised speed."

Meanwhile, O2 launched its business broadband packages that have similar features of its consumer broadband deals except the fact that you get additional internet security features with O2 business broadband packages.
