Nominet foundation is to fund selected projects

According to the report from Zdnet, Nominet, which owns .uk domain has planned to establish a foundation to promote education, research and development initiatives in UK internet industry. For instance, the online safety for children could be one of the projects that will be funded by the foundation. There are other such useful projects which may need funding and can apply for funds from the foundation.

Lesley Cowley, the CEO of Nominet said:
"Over the last few months, we have consulted with our members and wider stakeholders and received very positive feedback on the idea of creating the first foundation to fund research and educational initiatives in the UK internet arena,"

Further he disclosed the proposed plans of the foundation which has also earned support from Labour MP Alun Michael who is hopeful that the foundation can “strengthen the trust and confidence of users in the online environment and support the industry's role in addressing the needs of users, businesses and society".

It seems that Nominet has been chalking out the plans to setup the foundation while the projects that need funding will be decided in future once the organization has been established.
