Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200) is a external type of modem. It has LED indicators to give you the status of the connectivity and it looks like a small plastic box. Modem is connected to the computer with power units or cables. Most of the cable modems uses Ethernet port or USB port for transferring data at a high speed. This External Cable Modem was introduced by the firm "Motorola". This is a new user friendly modem and it has a top mounted stand-by button for additional end user security. It is very compact and it occupies very less space. It has an installation guide which helps to install the modem easily.

Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200) supports USB and Ethernet Connections. Both ports are used to connect the computer for networking. It helps to access the Internet in a very fast way. Ethernet is a local area network technology which is used to operate with a single cable. It is more reliable. USB is Universal Serial Bus. It is a compact port which is easily used in the modems. Both are bridged together and it allows the LAN traffic between USB device and Ethernet LAN. Ethernet and USB shares the Internet connections and supports it own technique. Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200) has a maximum downstream speed of 38 Mbps and upstream speed up to 10 Mpbs.

Motorola External Cable Modem (SB4200) has TCP and IP data protocols. Protocols are used to transfer the data. The interfaces used are F-Connector, female, 75 ohm for cable and USB for computer. It isĀ - compatible with the operating systems like Windows 95, Me, 98, 2000, XP, UNIX and Mac OS. This external cable modem can be used up to 32 users. This new cable modem has an auto detect feature. The dimensions of this external type of cable modem are measured in height, width and depth in inches as 7.2, 2 and 7.8 respectively.
