More Than 70,000 Customers Added by O2 in a Quarter

The latest figures have been published by the parent company of the popular mobile broadband provider operating in the United Kingdom, O2, Telefonica. The company has shown in its figures O2’s crossing a major milestone , which is nothing else than acquiring 527,126 broadband internet lines in the United Kingdom. The figures also include the customer-base of Be Broadband that is a currently an asset of Telephonica.

These figures may not seem big when compared with the customer-base of rival bigwigs such as BT-Retail, TalkTalk and Virgin Media. However, one can find on close observation that the 70,244 net additions to the 267,090 lines that O2 had a year back (according to previous figures), suggested that popularity of the broadband services of the company has been growing continuously.

However, O2 has also had its share of problems such as the congestion problems found over the O2 Access broadband product that is exclusively sold in those areas where the broadband provider has not unbundled an exchange, and more backfires experienced by the ISP in their trial to run an unlimited broadband service over the 21CN and 20CN networks of BT Wholesale. It is also fact that many experts suspect the O2 Access customer-base to be of a small proportion.

Meanwhile, Be Broadband that is at times regarded as the O2 brand’s quirky partner, though was among the first UK ISPs to offer the ADSL2+ broadband products in Britain a few years back. It is at present involved in providing other broadband suppliers with wholesale broadband services.

Today, it has been widely perceived by the expert class in the country that O2 would probably break in another twelve to eighteen months, the one million customer-base mark, providing Orange does not manage to reverse its customer churn.
