More and More Customers Want Mobile Broadband
A research conducted by the UK internet service provider, TalkTalk has found out that sixteen percent of their subscribers are inclined towards taking up mobile broadband as a complimentary or an optional service. In fact, the latest trend of the internet service customers that is very much bending towards mobile broadband is well known to the existing mobile broadband service providers. The same phenomenon has been much talked about by industry analysts for a while, and now even the figures tend to bode things not so pleasing for the broadband service providers that do not offer mobile broadband.
Many internet service providers like Orange, O2, BT and Virgin Media have been offering both the services that has largely enabled them to capitalise on the phenomenal growth of the mobile broadband customer base. Of the elite lot of mobile broadband providers, only Virgin Media and BT are predominantly fixed broadband ISPs that means the rest of the broadband service providers of the UK can end up losing a potential market that is all the more significant.
At present however, the focus is very much on the fibre optic connectivity that is at least for the time-being monopolised by BT and Virgin Media. This technology is one that can offer in the future internet accessing speeds of up to 100Mbps that is tremendous. Today, Virgin Media is successfully engaging this service to provide up to 50Mbps of broadband speeds.
Here, one might just think how could mobile broadband emerge a potential competitor with its limited speeds that in no way match with the express speeds effectuated by fibre-optic connectivity, on contrary to the contemplations of Ed Richards that bank on mobile broadband as a potential barrier to the fibre optics monopoly. Whatsoever, one cannot simply underrate the freedom of mobility that can only be gained through mobile broadband.
Moreover, the maximum attainable speeds of the mobile broadband today that lingers around 20mbps, can always be upgraded with the entry of a better technology. Currently, HSPA is the most advanced mobile broadband technology that allows the speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. 3G (UMTS) technology offers 384Kpbs, EDGE offers 236Kpbs, GPRS offers 48Kpbs and the stodgy basic GSM offers the speeds of up to 14.4Kpbs.
