LTE Mobile Broadband Can be Fixed Line Alternative: Vodafone
The latest mobile broadband technology, LTE or the Long Term Evolution , according to Vodafone was the viable alternative to the fixed-line broadband. This information was imparted to an elctronic weekly, by the broadband providing company.
The weekly has revealed that Vodafone had put forth their claims regarding the 100Mbps theoretical maximum download speed of the fourth generation mobile broadband technology that pla ced it in the same class of fibre-optic broadband technology.
Michael Walker, the R&D Director Professor at Vodafone, said at the Bristol Wireless 2.0 conference that LTE exhibited an average download speed of 15Mbps in the first real filed tests carried out.
Walker added that in reality wireless technology could successfully compete with fixed link technology, although most of the people thought otherwise. He also noted that the lessons conceived by Vodafone from its 3G experiences, would help it in the rolling out of LTE as well.
Professor Walker concluded saying that the discrepancies in speeds found amongst the 3G connections, which would give 1Mbps in certain places and 300Kbps elsewhere, would not be experienced with the LTE connections.
PC Pro reported this week that despite the support of Vodafone for the LTE, Ericsson still believed that the infrastructure would not be ready by 2012 for the introduction of the mobile broadband technology in the United Kingdom.
