Illegal Music Downloads Via Broadband

Illegal music downloading has been more or less a routine amongst the online music savvy for a long time. According to a latest survey more than forty percent of online subscribers accessed P2P download sites such as LimeWire and Bit Torrent. The survey was conducted by the internet service provider Tiscali.

dvdsecurityA previous research, The Digital Media Survey of 2007, carried out by Entertainment Media Research in 2007, as well had noticed that illegal downloading of  music had reached an all time high. At the time, according to the research, the popularity of the social networking websites like BeBo and MySpace had largely helped in democratizing the music industry. As a result, a large number of youngsters migrated to online music from music through television or radio.

The recent survey carried out by Tiscali, meanwhile found out that out of the people who indulged in illegal music download, three out of four, knew what was illegal, and at least half of the lot thought that the music industry was not doing enough to persuade them to recognize the fact that illegal downloading was damaging the industry.

The survey was conducted by Tiscali amongst a thousand of its music channel users, apart from a conducted poll amidst the readers of Drowned in Sound music magazine. However, some good news also got unveiled such as the claim of the majority of the respondents that they still paid for the music in some way or other like buying vinyl, CD or digital.

Moreover, out of the lot only a minority 15 percent, those were hord core practitioners of the illegal act said that they do not consider stopping the process, for they did not want to pay for the music. Many experts in the field said that this was not at all a thing to worry, for people, if prevented from accessing tracks for free, may well drift away in the future, from discovering new music.

Another fact that came into light through the ISPs dedicated research was that only six percent of the illegal downloaders feared penalty, as 5 percent was worried that their UK Broadband Provider would monitor them or cut them off.
