How to Use a Cable Modem as a Wired Router
Even during the modern times when the broadband routers can be dearly pieces of hardware, not many consumers know that they can change their cable modem into a wired router to deliver internet connectivity to a couple of separate locations.
This method saved money as well as considerable hassle that otherwise accompanied while dealing with incompetent routers. For using the cable modem as a wired router one has to follow cerrtain instructions.
Firstly the user needs to hook up his cable modem to his broadband provider as per the instructions given by them. Simply speaking, this would include the running of a cable broadband connection. It is noteworthy that many cable broadband providers offer the installation themselves in return for a nominal charge or even at no extra fee.
Now the USB data cable and an Ethernet cable needs to be located for the user’s cable modem. Usually the cable modem comes with the connectivity cables. If something is not found with the pack, the user will need to buy the cables at a computer hardware store.
Now the user needs to ensure that the USB data cable and the Ethernet cable were long enough for reaching from the cable modem to the two different locations to which the internet needs to be routed. Following this step, the USB cable needs to be hooked up to the rear side of the cable modem and then the cable needs to be connected to the nearest of the two computers.
As the next step, the user is required to hook the Ethernet cable up to the rear side of the cable modem to use the Ethernet cable for connecting to the farthest computer. Now the user can start using his cable modem hooked up this way as a router that connects a couple of seperate computers.
