How To Configure Wireless Router

The wireless router is the easiest way to connect to the wireless internet connection in home. Almost all of the broadband connections in home employ the use of wireless router for its simplified use. First of all, the type of connection is determined. Then the tools needed for the wireless connection is purchased. The main thing is wireless router and its LAN cables along with a Wi-Fi computer. Mostly RJ-45 types of connectors are used for wireless connection.

To epitomize, the Wireless router kit consists of following items namely wireless router, an ac power adapter which varies by region, a blue Ethernet cable and resource cd which includes smart wizard installation assistant and a manual. It also contains warranty and support information card. At the back of wireless router you can identify serial number, port connections, status lights and default login information, where the front side consists of several status lights which indicates power, internet, wireless and LAN (local area network) respectively.

The back of the wireless router consists of several port connections namely:

* Factory default reset button

* Four local Ethernet ports for connecting to the local computers

* Internet port for connecting to a cable or ADS2 modem

* Power adaptor

Before beginning the connection, we need an internet service, configuration information for your internet service provider (ISP).Depending on how your internet account was setup, you may need one or more of the following setting for the wireless router to access internet namely

* Host and domain names

* Internet login name and password

* Domain name server(DNS) addresses

* Fixed or static IP address

There are two setup method for connecting router namely smart wizard setup and manual setup.

Smart wizard method:

Smart wizard method will take 20 minutes to complete by inserting the installation cd into windows pc, it will automatically start and detect language you are using on your pc and completes the setup wizard.

Manual setup:

Besides the smart wizard setup, the wireless router can be configured manually too. There are some simple steps for the manual setup of a wireless router.

To start with, the internet connection must be available for working. For this, you need to contact the broadband provider to get such a connection. Then the wireless router based on such a connection is purchased along with its wireless kit. The router is now connected to the power supply and turned on. The default router name is checked in with the setup manual and connected to it.

The wireless router is now connected and ready to be connected with the modem. The Ethernet cable is connected to the “WAN” port of the router and the “LAN” or “Ethernet” port of the modem. Both the devices are restarted and turned on. Now the router’s configuration page is accessed and the IP address status is checked to be connected to the internet.

Now as you are connected to the internet, you need to check for a safe and secure wireless connection. Mostly 90 percent of the wireless routers provide an unsafe internet connection allowing infinite access to the internet by almost everyone. This type of tapping into the internet must be completely avoided by setting up the router within a certain range and gain security over internet. For this to be achieved, several types of encryption methods and levels are available such as “wireless encryption protocol” and so on. This WEP is accessed from the router IP configuring page where the password also called as a security key is entered and saved. For the final step, the wireless network is accessed and to connect with the internet the ten digit security key is provided.
