How to Change the Password for Your Broadband Connection

A broadband internet connection secured by a password, which generates a security key on the router of the network is the perfect example of an ideal connection in terms of security. Wireless PCs, laptops and a range of other wireless devices use this security key to gain entry to the network and access the internet connection.

If one feels that his current password of security has been compromised, he can log into the router to change the password besides generating a fresh security key for his wireless devices. A few instructions are given below to change the password of a broadband connection.

Step 1: An internet browser connected to the wireless router needs to be opened.

Step 2: Now the IP address of the user’s router needs to by entered into the browser’s address bar. Depending on the brand of the router owned by the user, different default IP addresses may be available. If the router’s IP address is not known, he usually can find it in the documentation, coming with the router.

Step 3: The customer needs to log into his wireless router through the username and password of the administrator. If the settings of the administrator account has not been changed, when the router was installed, this would become the default account. This data should also be included in the documentation accompanying the router.

Step 4: The user needs to navigate to the router dashboard’s wireless section and search for the Wireless Security settings.

Step 5
: The router’s security settings needs to be reviewed. If a password is being used it could be usually a WEP setting.

Step 6: A fresh password needs to be typed into the Passphrase text box to create fresh security keys.

Step 7
: Key 1 should be written down and kept secured as data. This would be the fresh security key, which connects wireless devices to the user’s router.

Step 8: The new security settings need to be saved on the user’s router to finish the password change.
